Jean-Michel Basquiat Inspired Seal Painting

I meshed a couple of my son’s interests, Jean-Michel Basquiat and seals, to create a work of art for his room.

I was inspired by what is possibly his most ubiquitous work, Pez Dispenser. I emulated as many details from the work as I could, while mimicking the features of a different animal.

For this work, I built a custom frame from some scrap wood I had lying around and a Kreg jig pocket hole system. This is the only time I have framed out my own artwork. It’s really simple to make strong joints with that simple little jig, so I would like to frame out more of my art in the near future. Especially the Keith Haring inspired paintings hung up my stairway.
