During this stage in my life, there’s nowhere I’d rather live than right here in the Southport area of Fairfield, Connecticut. I’ll tell you why.
Just this morning, I admired the sunrise as I was leaving the gym and decided to drive one minute down the street to enjoy it at Southport Beach.
Where I live is beautiful, no doubt.
On my way home, I passed by several antique dream homes of different architectural styles: Colonial, Federal, Greek Revival, Second Empire and Queen Anne.
This is the second time in the last week when I couldn’t resist chasing the sunrise. Could a morning walk get more picturesque than Southport Village, across from Perry Mill’s Green, near Pequot Yacht Club?
We may not live in Southport *Village,* but our neck of the woods is splendid for a morning walk as well.
And the schools! The public schools in Fairfield are top notch. It’s an amazing feeling to know that choices regarding your children’s’ education are made with the best for them in mind, rather than what’s best for a bottom line.
& it’s a beautiful place to grow up.
I love the sense of community. It’s a small town but not too small.
Still small enough to stand out, and make a name for yourself.
If it starts to feel too small, New York City is only fifty miles away.
New York City is fifty miles away.
That means when the sky gets lit up in a once-in-a-lifetime way, you won’t miss it.
The beauty of my town and Norman Rockwell-esque daily views are in such contrast to my urban childhood that it led me to pick up painting, and now I can’t put it down. I owe much of my inspiration to where I live.
The culture is different here from where I grew up, and it took a lot of adjusting to. But during this stage in my life, I know I’m exactly where I need to be for my kids to get a great education, to be represented by politicians I can trust to serve me on a local and state level, and for opportunities to grow my art business.
It doesn’t hurt that the views aren’t bad, either.
All photos taken in the last few weeks.
