The Whole Squad

When are you most happy?

I’m most happy when my family is together doing a fun activity. It’s not always easy to find activities for the whole family with kids so far apart in age. But today we went for our first snowboarding session of the season.

Mount Southington

Last year we got almost no snow all winter long, so imagine my surprise yesterday when I turned on my street after picking up our youngest’s board rental and snow began to fall. What luck!

My husband yesterday: “did you just take a picture of the house?” Me: “Uh, yes. I remember the last couple of winters. The picture will last longer.”

A couple of runs were rust busters, as we needed to regain our footing after a while off of the slopes. But even our youngest was back in the swing of things!

Make it Art

This morning I continued my streak of ten minute daily illustrations. The illustration I copied from was a book from Helen Yoon, titled “A Pinecone!” This book was simple but SO CUTE, it had my son laughing at bedtime. I loved the illustration style so I tried my hand at it in the morning. After our day on the slopes, I went back to A Pinecone to use for references as I began building a family portrait based a bit on her illustrations. They became their own.

I’m most happy with family fun, but I’m second most happy when I’ve created something I’m proud of: a project, a painting, an illustration, a blog post—a combination of two or more of those.

I checked a few boxes today.
