Hiking in Fairfield, Connecticut

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

I do it all! I’m a bit of a gym rat–I even dressed as one for Halloween one year.

This was in 2019, before I lost much of the weight. Note the gym injury on my wrist

I’ve written before about being a yogi, one of my favorite instructors at Equinox, and triathlon back in the day. I was boxing regularly for a year but my upper body is a little more developed than I like so I’m still doing spin, barre, HIIT and yoga.

If I’m being completely honest, spending time with my husband and gardening are probably my first and second favorite forms of physical activity. But I’ve written about those before and yesterday I made this painting I’d like to share.

So, my favorite is…

Hiking in Southport Park

Fall days are stunning here in Fairfield, Connecticut. I can’t help but feel as if I live in paradise as I drive through the winding roads at this time of year with the delightful show of leaves all ablaze.

Thursday afternoon my sons and I had a picnic dinner and went for a hike in Southport Park. On Friday I took a break from the commission I’ve been working on to quickly spit out this painting in a couple of hours, using the techniques I learned from the painting retreat in Spain.

“Wait up!” acrylic on canvas, 11×14

I love hiking because it fuels my mind, spirit, and creativity. I find that high intensity workouts make me feel tired throughout the day as my muscles rebuild, while hiking makes me relaxed yet revved up and excited to do more.
