Last weekend we were in Orlando for our family’s first trip to Disney World. Things have been hectic and emotional in my family for the last couple of months–lots of changes, lots of routines disrupted, the whole shebang. We had this trip booked far in advance, and on the eve of our flight I was so exhausted–how can I be doing this now? When all I want is a nap?
It ended up being a much needed reprieve from much of what has been plaguing us. I’m glad we had it in the books because though there weren’t naps going down to quell my overwhelm, I was fully emerged in the escape.
I’ve done ‘fit pic friday twice so far this year, and though I’m not sure if I’m going to pursue it all year long, I definitely want to share my Disneybound looks!
We aren’t a Disney family, but when we were in the very beginning stages of planning I already knew I wanted to make this another excuse to dress up. Costumes are not allowed at the park, in that you can’t you know, pose as a character and take pics with random little kids or whatever. That would be wildly creepy. But when you build an outfit in ode to a character, it’s called Disneybound-ing.
Most of the items I already had and I was able to throw some looks together that represented characters from the different parks.
Our first day, we headed straight for Hollywood Studios. My guy is a nerd and has been looking forward to Galaxy’s Edge since they first broke ground. He indulged himself: he and my youngest each had a custom droid building experience and custom lightsaber build experience.
We even went to Oga’s Cantina, which had the coolest food, felt much like the scene in the film, and was an overall super cool experience.
I didn’t have this look until the week I was packing-last minute plan!
I loved seeing the smile on people’s faces when they caught the reference.
Blue milk! One of the cast members told me, “I’ve never seen an Ewok-human hybrid species before!”
We stayed at the Fort Wilderness campground cabins–thanks to my pal Heather at Vue Travel–we had originally booked a fully different resort, and we changed it up completely last minute–a week before the holiday weekend (re: busy) that we had scheduled! It occurred to us last minute that we needed a suite, many things were booked, but this cabin ended up being better than we could have imagined. We didn’t have to share walls with other families, it was so cozy, and we got to drive around everywhere on a golf cart. Oh! And there was a boat that took us to Magic Kingdom, and we were able to watch the fireworks from the pier. It as nice keeping the magic with us, even at our hotel accomodations.
Belle loves books. I love books. How could I not honor her? My man is a beast in a gym way, not a hideous creature way. When I passed by the Be our Guest restaurant while off on my own for a bit, I knew I wanted a picture there! Once I returned with the fam, we stumbled upon a Disney Photopass photographer.
If I knew more about these photopass folks, I would have probably pressed much harder on my family about dressing up together. They weren’t into it and I didn’t want to make them do something unfun. But real photographers that’ll take multiple portraits of you and your family? A MINISHOOT? And I realized after the fact that the pricing is per day or per trip. When we were there, it was $76/day and somewhere under $300 for the whole trip.
I KNOW THIS IS ASTRONIMCAL FOR ONE PICTURE. In relation to the cost of a mini photoshoot, this is actually a steal. We essentially could have gone to several spots for professional photos throughout the day. V cost effective–cheaper than holiday photos! Though obviously that’s not how we would want to spend our whole day. I digress.
Also worth noting: how cool I looked (& felt) on the new Tron rollercoaster:
There’s a lot more of those photopass pics I liked that I didn’t share…I wrote that it’d be silly to spend so much on a picture, but honestly I would have probably spent $75 for one good pic of this Ariel look. Belle and I love books, but Arielle and I love people’s old junk, being where the people are, and rebelling. She’s always been my favorite.
There were a few late changes to this look because the weather–it rained a lot.
Navy Suede loafers and navy wool skirt are both thrifted from goodwill for this look–but lets take a moment and look back on when I wore this skirt for the first time: my Hamilton, Suffragette, “Radical Progressives” family Halloween costume.
I couldn’t zip it up at all and didn’t think I’d be wearing it as a part of a normal outfit or it ever actually fitting.
It didn’t snow as much as they predicted, but I was ready! I’m happy we’ve got some coverage, I want to see WHITE through the winter!
