is it weird to have a blog in 2024?
I’ve had this domain name for about a decade but I didn’t have the good habits, self esteem, organization or consistency required to post on a regular basis until now. The strange thing is, blogging may seem out of date to many. The popular DIY bloggers that inspired me a decade ago have switched directions.… Continue reading

Ms.Frizzle-meets-Art-Hoe aesthetic
What are your favorite emojis? 🙃🙈🫣 Are some of my most frequently used emojis. I don’t text or use social media like Instagram and I try to convey emotion through words, so I’m not on that alternate keyboard often. All three of these emojis represent a kind of silly embarrassment: “Whoops!” “I made a confession!”… Continue reading

Cut the Roses
I’ve written before about a good friend of mine, a neighbor who’s pushing eighty. This friend does a little somethin’ that’s familiar from my punk rock days called dumpster diving, and loves to share the spoils. Continue reading

What I’ll Measure
I showed up to the gym without a shirt on. Moments prior, I dashed around the house, throwing various items in my teen son’s former backpack, another hand-me-up, emblazoned with colorful profiles of various Marvel superheroes. Predicting the things I’d use to get ready in a short amount of time was harder than expected, but… Continue reading

Bask in it
There’s a group fitness instructor at my gym that’s a real badass. This was made abundantly clear after I signed up: his classes, every single one of them, were booked immediately upon becoming available. Once I followed suit and set a recurring alarm to book 26 hours in advance of his class, I saw what… Continue reading

Magnetic Word Poetry & Marriage Struggles
For Christmas, I received a set of magnetic word poetry. This week I took a few minutes out to make a few poems, like this autobiographical one I wrote on Monday: Continue reading

Creative Constipation
I was introduced to the concept of Creative Constipation a few years ago through the book Start Finishing by Charlie Gilkey. Creative Constipation is a clever name for what happens when you’re full of ideas you aren’t executing on. Whether time, resources, or executive function are to blame, when you have many things you want… Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Weekly Creative Round Up
Last week was my first rendition of my Weekly Creative Work Round Up, where I combine everyday creative endeavors, ‘fit pics, and other aspects of art/writing/life balance to discuss ways in which I’ve worked to strengthen my creative muscles through the week. Continue reading

Weekly Creative Work Roundup
Last week I wrote of daily creative acts and how I’d like to keep tabs on them the same way I’ve been keeping up with having fun getting dressed through my ‘Fit Pic Friday posts. As I wrote in “Why ‘Fit Pic Friday?”, I don’t see myself as much of a fashion person, I just… Continue reading
About Me
I’m an artist. Sometimes I paint impressionist townscapes in oils, other times I sketch out what I’d rather be painting in pencil. I design intentional environments in my home, and sometimes I get around to projects that the design consists of. I flip thrifted clothes, or I let ideas pile up like used fabrics overflowing from a box in my basement. This is a metaphor, but also a fact.
I’m a writer. Sometimes that means bad poetry. I often meander in my prose, as I find it hard not to mention every detail, what something reminds me of, and all of the background information you could never want.
I’m an explorer. Sometimes I explore the great outdoors, or other countries. Other times, my nose deep in a book, I’m exploring the universal human experience, nature science, ancient wisdom and impacts of colonialism. Often, I’m exploring my own inner experience through train-of-thought journaling.
I’m restless in my curiosity and consistently creative. To an outsider, it’s clear that leading a creative life involves output: paintings, outfits, decor, a garden. The creative knows that this output requires a frequent stream and synthesis of that input. This blog is the space I use to organize and sort my meandering thoughts and pile of ideas.
