Storytelling around a fire is one of the most integral acts of human behavior. It was around the fire that our ancestors’ bodies would warm from not only the blaze before them, but from the comfort of belonging to a tribe. Members would tell emphatic tales of the day’s hunting while others learned from their experiences or they would share far-out myths to foster the deeply-held values of the group.

This painting is about the space left behind as people flock to a digital realm. Though many reach for digital devices with addicting apps to satiate an inherent hunger for social interaction, they often walk away from the experience feeling more empty than before, hungry for the warmth of community and belonging.
